Bragg was therefore forced to withdraw his left wing behind the Chattanooga Creek.

The Confederate troops and artillery positioned on top of Lookout Mountain could not directly support the battle and retreted.The Confederates brigades of Gen Walthall and Moore were the only forces in position to defend against an attack by 3 Union divisions. Out of his original 1500-man brigade, Gen.
