In World War II, the most destructive fighting was in Stalingrad. A reported 1.5-5.0 million people died. These numbers come from both soldiers and civilians. Another costly battle in World War II was the Battle for Berlin, which resulted in roughly 1.25 million people died. One of the costliest battles in World War I was the battle of Verdun, which some refer as France's Battle of Stalingrad.
Nearly 4000 people died in the battle but the most famous was Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson.
