Obviously they couldn't take much with them, so they each had basic defence weapons and things a few toiletrees, etc. Everyone had writing equipment as they often wrote to family.

Trench warfare was a bloody business for all sides, fought sometimes with literally anything that came to hand should the invading force breach into an army's trenches, but the main weapons used were bolt action rifles, machine guns shotguns and most often, artillery, lots of artillery, during the battle of the Somme ( a failed attempt by the british empire to breach the German trenches ) artillery batteries fired almost non stop for 3 days ( perhaps 5? correct me if im wrong ) days straight in an attempt to break the wire, it failed and hundreds of thousands of british soldiers lost their lives in the coming assaults as british officers could find no other means to break the lines
gas attacks, which included chlorine ( which could cause one's lungs to fill with liquid and essentially drown the victim ) and mustard gas ( odd fact, Adolf Hitler, future dictator of nazi Germany was a victim of a WW1 gas attack and nearly died because of it )
Bi planes were used in warfare but sparsley, as the technology was new, at most a pilot might drop rocks, grenades or maybe even small bombs on the trenches below, but mainly planes were used for reconnaisiance.
Near the end of the war the first Tanks were designed by the English and french, the first assaults failed and basically gave the Germans the idea for the new weapons but as the Germans were on the defensive by this point it didnt matter
to get into the specifics of which army used which rifle, German soldiers were using Mauser rifles (i don't know which models exactly were issued so you'll have to forgive me) as well as soldiers in Belgium and several other countries, British soldiers were using the Lee Enfield rifle (a feat they were known the most for was the 'mad minute' in which British soldiers would fire anywhere from 15-30 aimed shots in a minute, an astounding accomplishment for the era), the french used the Lebel gun (no research into this one at all so (shrug) sorry) all of these are bolt action rifles, another side note, when the English first encounterd German soldiers while performing the mad minute, the Germans retreated, believing they were running into enemy machinegun fire.
