The Soviet Union. The Soviets and Nazi's were both radical and awful countries. But the Soviets weren't the ones trying to take over the world and since Germany in 1941 invaded the Soviet Union they joined the allies. After World War II and especially after the United States dropped of the Nuclear Weapons in Japan, the Soeviet Union was very interested in creating their own Nuclear Weapons- which they did. Since the Soviets and the US had Nuclear Weapons and their political views were ostile towards eachother, post WWII Europe was a tense place which eventually the Battleground of the suprisingly peaceful Cold War which was quite because of the tension of possible Nuclear War doom. Sorry for the rant. So the allies basically faced possible Nuclear War a few years after World War II. But not only was it the Soviet Union they were facing. The United States and the allies were given the task of rebuilding the post war Europe and Japan. This was a large task which was not easy. There was also the threat of the spread of Communism, which President Eisenhower felt was a dooming threat which thrust the US and allies into Cold War conflicts. Hope this helped.
