It was the fastest way to get official news on the war. You could only get news through the radio and the newspapers.

The newspapers were only printed once a day (for the most part) so the news would already be hours old when you got it. The radio could interrupt regular broadcasting and bring updates as needed.

The positive aspects of the radio is that the news was delivered quickly.

The positive aspects of newspapers is that, though the news was older, the news was more in-depth than you could receive via the radio.

Radio was also important for military communication. One of the main weaknesses of the Soviet tanks were the lack of radios. American soldiers used radio to call for air support.
