In Iraq, there is, for the most part, a healthy mix between modern and traditional clothing. Although, since the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein, more traditional clothing has become more common because their have been attacks on unveiled women.

Men where things like dishdashas, which are long usually white garments, sometimes covered by a black abaya., a long overgarment, sometimes with embroidery. On their heads, men wear the ghatra(colored) or yishmaagh(white) with a egal (headband) to hold it on the head. Sometimes you can tell from which region of Iraq they are from by the color of the head veil. Women wear the long abaya, which covers everything below the neck except the feet and hands. They wear on their heads the hijab, which is a veil which covers the hair, or the niqaab, which only shows the eyes. Usually, Iraqi women do not wear the burqa, the full body veil, which has a light veil even over the eyes.
