many people just got on with their normal lives. some where affected more than others. Some said that it was strange how it was more or less the same as before the war started. A good book about the war would be FIREWEED - i don't know who it is by but it gives lots of detail into the lives of people in ww2 and how they lived. Its also a very interesting read! Gasoline shortages were especially acute in the Eastern states. Victory gardens became popular as a way to produce Food. Many home owners with a yard were encouraged to make it a garden. Daylight savings time was also created to save energy and candles. the rule was made that the time would be set back to use the light of day. When the men went to war it left job's to be filled so it opened the opportunity for women to finally work changing the history forever.
