Operation 'Overlord' is the code-name for the invasion of Normandy and the task of bringing Allied (British, American, Canadian and Commonwealth are the most major) troops into West Europe, and keeping them there. It lasted about three months and ended with an Allied 'victory' in the sense that they completed the objectives that they had set in the time frame they had predicted (More or less).
