'The Wizard War' was used to describe the British Air Ministry's Scientific Intelligence's efforts to discover, and develop means of disrupting, Germany's attempts to set up electronic navigation and bombing 'beams' for their bombers. After successfully achieving this, the organisation went on to identify and determine the characteristics of Germany's ground and air radar systems, and was able to identify, locate, and map the various radar stations used in Germany's air defence system. Heading the relatively small team that was responsible for this was a young (in his late 20s) scientist, Professor Reginald Jones. His organisation also discovered and determined the operational specifications of the V1 and V2 weapons, providing Britain sufficient time in which to develop the appropriate defenses or action against these weapons. Jones's efforts were supported by other organisations responsible for Enigma decrypts, interrogation of captured Luftwaffe aircrew, photo-recce squadrons, and agents/resistance members operating on the continent.
