Where did swastika comes from?

The origin of the swastika goes back 3000 years. Swastika-shaped ornaments have been found through archaeological evidence dating from the Neolithic period. The word 'swastika' is derived from 'Sanskrit' meaning 'lucky object'. It can aslo mean 'good luck' and is associated with well-being. Various versions of the swastika has been widely used in religions like Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, as well as in Greco-Roman and Celtic antiquity and in Pre-Christian culture in the West. Some Native American tribes have also used the swastika shape. From the 1930s the swastika became associated with the Nazis in Germany and has since become a taboo symbol in the Western world, for example it is outlawed in Germany to use the swastika. Nowadays it is associated with political extremist and neo-Nazi groups like the Ku Klux Klan, the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging in South Africa and the Russian National Unity.

Did they have the swastika in World War 1?

No, the Swastika was the symbol of the Nazi party. The party was formed after the great war by disaffected men unhappy at the perceived injustice of the treaty of Versailles and what they saw as the weak Weimar republic. Yes, the Swastika was used in WW1 by various units. The Swastika was an ancient symbol and the American Indians used it as a good luck symbol. The US 45th Infantry Division wore a shoulder sleeve insignia that included a Swastika because of its association with Oklahoma Indians. (Later it became a Red Diamond with a Yellow Swastika which was changed to a Yellow Thunderbird at the outbreak of WW2---because of its association with the Nazi's.) The Swastika was painted on several WW1 aircraft. One of France's leading Ace had a large swastika painted on the sides and top of the fuselage behind the cockpit. The Lafeyette Escadrille, composed of Americans who volunteered to fly for the French, had the head of an Indian Chief painted on their aircraft and on the bonnet was a small swastika. The Finnish national insignia was a Blue Swastika but I'm not sure if it was used during WW1 or after. During WW2 the Finnish national insignia painted on their aircraft was a white circle with a Blue Swastika. It may have been used in WW1.

Why is the swastika tilted?

The swastika is the oldest symbol in the world, dating back 5000 years. it is a symbol for pretty much anything positive, love, friendship, compassion, peace, good fortune, so on. Sadly there was the nazi regime which twisted the meaning but hopefully the world can forget about 6 years of a symbol that has been used for 500 of it years

In World War 2 what was a Squander Bug?

It was a propaganda character created by an artist in England that became their mascot for Hitler and eventually gained swastika tattoos. He was used to influence people to buy war bonds and savings.

What did Hitler use the swastika symbol for during World War 2?

Everywhere. Really. The swastika was adopted as the Nazi symbol, so anything related to that political party used it. It was also adopted as part of the National Insignia that was worn by the military. Each branch of service wore an Eagle that held a Swastika in a circle. This was worn on their tunic, their belt buckle, and usually on their helmet. Also the Eagle and Swastika was used in many official stamps and markings. Each part of clothing were stamped with it by the manufacturer. Military medals, coins, and even guns were stamped with this---somethings it is a very tiny imprint. This stamp has helped military collectors know when they had an authentic Nazi item. However now, reproductions are so detailed that even the maker's stamp is copied.

It was a black swastika in a white circle on a red background. The swastika was a universal sign of peace in Ancient Civilizations. The German National Socialist Workers Party adopted it, turned it 45 degrees on end and used it as their party symbol. Ever since it has been associated with the German National Socialist Workers Party. However, there were different variations for different branches of the service.

What cultures used the word swastika long before Hitler and nazi Germany?

The swastika was used all over the world before the Nazis appropriated it. Vikings, Romans, Greeks, the Middle East, even ancient China and India. Around the time of World War II, a blue swastika was a common symbol used by the military of Finland. However, Hindus- people who follow Hinduism, one of India's major religions- still consider the swastika to be a symbol of good luck. Hinduism is thousands of years old too, so it's been used by them for a long time. Other religions that have ties to India, especially Buddhism and Jainism, also sometimes use the symbol.
