There weren't 6 African scientists on the Manhattan project. They were all European or American. It was rare indeed for a black man to be allowed an education in those days. It is doubtful that any got so far as to achieve a PhD in physics or chemistry. Ernest Wilkins got a PhD in 1942 and from 1944 worked on the Manhattan Project in the University of Chicago's Met Lab.
