The Aztecs were a member of the American Indian people domitant in Mexico before the Spanish conquest of the 16th century.
After much wandering and a few wars in the early 1300's,the Aztecs reached th Marshy islands in Lago de Texcoco or lake texcoco.Acording to Aztec legend ,an eagle perching on a cactus tree ,holding a snake in its beak,was a sign indicating where they should build their new capital city and so ,their capital Tenochtitlan was build at that place.
The city of Tenochtitlan was soon to become one of the largest cities in the world.The power of the Aztecs became more consolidated ,and they began to form alliances.
The Aztecs expanded their kingdom through a series of wars against lesser tribes.They fought the Tepanca tribe who lived on the western shore of lakeTexcoco ,and defeated them.
