I suppose it depends on what qualities you consider the worst. If its body count HH Holmes of 19th century Chicago would be up toward the top. If your talking about the bloodiest and most depraved, then London's Jack The Ripper of the late 19th and early 20th century would get the prize. What the Ripper did to Mary Kelly defies description. The Ripper would also get the award for the best-known serial killer, with America's Ted Bundy a close second.

Although serial murder is a world-wide problem, it seems that America has more than it's share. There are theories as to why this is, and it is probably not just one reason but several factors that all add up to the answer. For some reason the west coast of America seems to be a 'hot bed' of serial killers. If you count the bodies of Ted Bundy and Gary Leon Ridgeway, both of Washington state, the body count is enormous. This does not even include killers from Oregon and California. In other words, its a huge problem, one that needs to be studied further.
