The United States (America) has only been invaded TWICE. And only controlled once:
1. Britain invaded and controlled the US (capital) during the War of 1812. They burned the US capital. Which was then rebuilt and painted white when the war was over.
2. Japan invaded and landed tanks in Alaska and occupied some of its territory; as well as shelling Santa Barbara California with a submarine deck gun and bombing Brookings Oregon with a submarine launched airplane. But Japan never occupied nor controlled America (never touched the US capital as Great Britain did).
The United States had invaded the Philippines before they entered the World War 2.
Poland was invaded by Germany just before the war was declared.
Unlikely.
That was quite complicated. After French troops were defeated in the battle of Dien Bien Phu in May 7, 1954, the Geneva Conference (which had been held before) came to an agreement known as the Geneva Accords. In this this set of treaties, France and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam both agreed to withdraw their troops to different parts of the country (Vietnamese forces to the North, and French troops to the South). After that, French army would retreat completely from Vietnam and two regions would unify in an election. However, U.S. government later refused to follow that schedule because they had never signed the Accords. They set up a pro-America government with Ngo Dinh Diem as president in South Vietnam while communists still controlled the North. To conclude, it was France, America and, ironically, Vietnam (didn't know what it was doing) who divided Vietnam.
From 1885 until 1954 (excepting a brief period of Japanese control as the Empire of Vietnam) Vietnam was part of the colony of French Indochina. Before the war , Vietnam was divided into two, North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
You've got it alittle reversed; "Before America's involvement in Vietnam it had been invaded and ruled..." by only 3 or 4 nations (not "all"); China, France, Japan.
Yes. Vietnam was a French colony. They lost a Vietnam War and were thrown out of Vietnam before America tried to win a war in Vietnam. America also lost a Vietnam War.

The Spaniards were here long before the British and French.
Before reunification, Vietnam was divided into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam had a Sino-Soviet backed Communist government, while South Vietnam had a Western-backed Democratic government (at least in principle). Prior to the division of North and South Vietnam, it was subject to a French colonial government, whose control of the region was interrupted during WWII, when a Japanese occupational government controlled the region.
