At the end of World War II, the USSR emerged as a major global power, having played a crucial role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. It expanded its influence in Eastern Europe by establishing communist governments in several countries, effectively creating a buffer zone against the West. Additionally, the USSR participated in the formation of the United Nations and engaged in post-war negotiations, solidifying its status as one of the world's superpowers. The post-war landscape set the stage for the subsequent Cold War tensions between the Soviet Union and the Western allies.

After the war USA and USSR fought (not literally) for power in post-war world. Europe was divided in eastern Europe, which was under USSR's subordination and western Europe, which actively cooperated with USA. The tension between these two nations grew resulting in cold war.

After World War II, both the US and the USSR were primarily concerned about the spread of influence and ideology. The US aimed to contain communism and prevent its spread into Europe and beyond, promoting democratic governance and capitalism instead. Conversely, the USSR sought to expand its communist ideology, secure its borders, and establish a sphere of influence in Eastern Europe. This mutual suspicion and conflicting aspirations led to the onset of the Cold War.
