During the post-World War II era, U.S. Secretary of State James F. Byrnes famously advocated for a tough stance against the Soviet Union, urging the need to "get tough with Russia." His remarks reflected the growing tensions of the early Cold War period and the belief that a strong approach was necessary to counter Soviet expansionism. Byrnes' position was part of a broader strategy to contain communism and assert American influence in the world.
U.S. and Russia
World War 1 sparked a hatred for the government of Russia by their people. This eventually led to the Russian Revolution of 1917. I have a short paper that i have written on the topic if you would like to know a little of what happen to Russia between the two World wars. leave me a comment and i will post the paper if you would like.
During World War II, the Soviet Union, which included Russia, is estimated to have spent approximately $192 billion (equivalent to around $2 trillion today) to fight against Germany and the Axis powers. This expenditure encompassed military operations, equipment, infrastructure repair, and support for the war effort. The immense financial cost was coupled with significant human losses and destruction, shaping the post-war landscape of the region.
(The Phillippines became independent)During the post-World War II years, many colonies in Asia and Africa gained their freedom. One of these colonies, the Philippines, was granted its independence by the U.S. on July 4, 1946. During these years, most British and French colonies also gained their independence.
