Egypt (1922) was the first African nation to become independent from a European nation, but it was not a colony (it was a protectorate). The first colony to become independent was Italian Libya in 1951.

On 29 March: INDIAN HISTORY: # MANGAL PANDEY, a young Indian sepoy(soldier), was hanged to death on this day because he attacked his British army officer of the East India Company. It is said that he was the first man to rebel against the mighty British. This event basically started a mutiny, which grew into the Great Rebelion of 1857 .This rebellion is said to be the greatest armed rebellion against colonialism in the 19 Century.
