Panzer tanks were built primarily during the period leading up to and during World War II, with production starting in the late 1930s. The exact timeline varies depending on the specific model of the Panzer tank: Panzer I: Production began in 1934, and around 1,400 units were built until 1937. Panzer II: Production started in 1936, and approximately 1,800 units were manufactured until 1943. Panzer III: Production commenced in 1937, with over 5,700 units built until 1943. Panzer IV: Production began in 1936, and over 8,500 units were manufactured until 1945. The Panzer IV remained in production throughout the war, with continuous upgrades and modifications. These tanks were pivotal components of the German military's armored divisions during World War II, playing crucial roles in various campaigns and battles across Europe and North Africa. The Germans primarily used the Panzer, Panther, and the Tiger 1 and 2 later in the war. The Russians used the T-34 and the JST-34, and the Americans used the Sherman tank, over 44,000 were produced in the war time period (1941-1945)
At the beginning of WW II,the greatest war machine that Germany constructed was the Panzer tank. When the Panzer first entered the battle field in 1939 no other armoured vehicle could compete with it. Not only this, but the fast paced tactics that the German high command utilized were unlike any that had been used before. Before the September of 1939, no other military in the world had used tanks in such numbers and with such speed. Germanys Panzer divisions tore threw Poland and France early on in the war. The idea of using tanks as highly mobile, fast paced killing machines (and, for that matter, in large numbers) became known as Blitzkrieg (German for "Lightning War"). It was the use of the Panzer in such overwhelming force that carved out Hitlers European Empire.
