Henri Guisan - elected General and therefore in some way the leader of Switzerland. Nevertheless there are seven persons elected for the Swiss Federal Council (since 1848)... so there's never only one person ruling the ways... and by the way: A General is elected in Switzerland only during time of war. So, there's no General nowadays.

Political leaders: Mainly the seven members of the Swiss Federal Council, all equivalent, but one elected to politically represent Switzerland for the period of one year,

Philipp Etter (1939), Marcel Pilet-Golaz (1940), Ernst Wetter (1941), Pilipp Etter (1942), Enrico Celio (1943), Walther Stampfli (1944), Eduard von Steiger (1945)... each time together with the six others.

To one of them, Marcel Pilet-Golaz, was attributed a certain sympathy for the German Reich - he was therefore very unpopular. Entering in the Council 1928, he had to withdraw from his office in 1944.
