Vietnamese nationalist Phan Boi Chau wrote History of the Loss of Vietnam in1905. It was read more in China and other countries than in Vietnam, and led to the use of Vietnam as an example of what was wrong with colonialism. The book revived the use of the name "Vietnam." At that time, the country was commonly called "Annam".
