When General Douglas MacArthur landed in Leyte on October 20, 1944, he was accompanied by key military figures, including Lieutenant General Richard K. Sutherland, his chief of staff, and Rear Admiral Thomas C. Kinkaid, commander of the Seventh Fleet. Additionally, members of the 6th Army and various support personnel were part of the landing force. This event marked the beginning of the liberation of the Philippines during World War II.

The Supreme commander of ALL of the Allied forces during WWII, this included US and its ALLIES, was Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. But we must not forget all the other great Generals that served for Gen. Eisenhower. Among them Gen. George S. Patton (US), Gen. Douglas McCarthur (US), Gen. Montgomery-Monty (UK). Each of these men a long with other generals, led simultaneous offensives and operations that brought success to the allies.
Gen Bradley was present on the cruiser USS Augusta at the actual landings, and landed himself on the 7th.

The US was being forced to retreat by overwhelming Japanese forces which forced Gen. Douglas McArthur to withdraw, however, thousands of US and British and Australian troops were trapped and surrendered to the Japanese. Before Gen. McArthur left, he swore to the Phillipine people that he would return to them and he did, keeping his promise.
