As far as England and Germany specifically are concerned, it becomes even more peculiar when you understand that the British Royal Family are actually direct descendents of the German Royal Family, and it was not until the first war that the British royals thought it might be a good idea to change their name from the German Hapsburgs to the very English Windsors.
