Until the 1990's, after the cold war, the military world consisted of drab colors and all men. Add war to the solution, and you have a drab colored world of men in a dirty hostile place. Painting beautiful women and colorful Cartoons on their drab painted aircraft brought smiles, beauty, humor, hope, and life back into the live's of the men. Answer It wasn't done just to make war pretty. It gave the bomber crew pride and a unity among them. The pilots were an elite group of men and they didn't always follow the rules. For example, officers often slept and ate with his Enlisted crew members. That was not common nor even allowed. The Army allowed the nose art as that is what the pilot officers wanted.
