Who won World War 2 and how did they win?

Well, the allies won in 1943 Hitler committed suicide. Yet the war was won in 1945 meaning the axis forces didn't give in so easy. U.S.A. had captured half of Berlin and the U.S.S.R. captured the other probably by taking the reichstag over. Anyway after the war U.S.A. and Russia made the 'Berlin Wall', where there was actually a wall dividing Berlin in half. It was brutal but the Allies won. I hope this answers your question! P.S. the reason Russia and U.S.A. made the wall was because the Russians are Communists and the U.S.A. are Capitalists. That was one of the reasons the Russian Civil War took place.

What did World War I achieve?

Gosh.... now there's a concept, a successful war. I think WW1 is probably a very good example of a war that everyone lost, in some way or other. The Germans were certainly defeated. The Russians too, on a horrific scale. Austria/Hungary was broken up & the Ottoman Empire, Turkey, was a thing of the past. The Anzac forces lost heavily in the Gallipoli campaign. France lost a great many young men, Britain too. Civilians were affected in warfare, not in the front line, but at home too, for the first time. Unrestricted Submarine warfare attacked defenceless Merchantmen. Poison gas, land mines, barbed wire, the advent of armoured warfare, aerial warfare, bombing defenceless people...... Please don't misunderstand me, I am as fond of a good war film as most, but the idea of a war being successful is not something i altogether agree with. Both, say, Wellington & Napoleon were great Generals, successful in great measure in their time, a hundred years before WW1, but the idea of a successful war, it does not fit my view of History. Now who was it who said one mans death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statitic ?
