Because the allied forces were able to gain controlof German-held beaches in Normandy, France and began their liberation of Western Europe.
Some people actually think that the battle of Stalingrad was the most important battle... Russians were terrible fighters that's why so many died. Also, they would have lost if it wasn't for the U.S. airforce bombing Germany submission.
Addendum:
Normandy can't exist without Great Britan as the base, and England can't exist without the "Battle of Britan". There is no way that the "Battle of Britan" could have been sustained and maintained unless the "Battle of the Atlantic" had reached a point where a free flow of goods, weapons, fuel , aircraft and troops could be prepositioned for an Invasion of what
was called "Fortress Europe".
Many Soviets died in defence of their homeland on every battelfield.
Stalingrad was no exception and it's importance Politically, Tactically and Strategicaly can't be ignored. By the way, the US Army Air Forces were
not employed in support of the defense of Stalingrad.
the battle of Britain happened between July 1940 and oct 1940 the battle of the Atlantic went on to atleast 1943 when at last mainly british ships forced the germanys subs to go under the water to attack the ships bringing supplies from usa to England.the bombing off Germany started in 1940 by the british first and then the Americas from 1942 to about April 1945 when the Russians where to close to Berlin to carry on.the battle that was going on in the desert at the same time as Stalingrad at alamein more Germans where taken prisioners there then at Stalingrad.but that battle with Russians and Germans was the to death .
don't think the second world war would have started had the Russians not signed that treaty with the Germans in august 1939 but that is a different story

With all of the many battles that occurred in the Pacific during World War II, it is difficult to point to just one as the most important. All the same, many observers point to the Battle of Midway, which took place in June of 1942, as the most important -- and with good reason. For it was at Midway that the Japanese offensive was first checked; at the same time, the Japanese navy suffered decisive losses from which it would never recover for the remainder of the war.
The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle, widely regarded as the most important of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. It took place from 4 June to 7 June 1942, approximately one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea and exactly six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.
Battle of the Somme
The four most important battles were Battle of Verdun Battle of The Somme Battle of Ypres And the 1918 Battle of Amiens
World War 2 Battle of Stalingrad Battle of Britain Battle of the Atlantic Battle for Midway Battle of Leningrad
The Second Battle of El Alamein was perhaps the most important battle in the African theatre because it was the first major Allied offensive against the Germans.

Choosing the most important World War II battle out of the group of El Alamein, Stalingrad, the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, and D-Day is not easy. The Battle of Britain is arguably the most important, however, because without Great Britain's success in it, none of the other battles would have taken place; moreover, Germany's might would have grown terrifyingly, as a result.
