The war was not over by Christmas 1914 due to the unexpected stalemate on the Western Front, where both the Allied and Central Powers dug in and established entrenched positions. Initial expectations of a quick victory were met with fierce resistance and logistical challenges, resulting in a prolonged conflict. Additionally, the harsh winter conditions hindered military operations, and both sides were determined to continue fighting rather than concede defeat. The combination of these factors led to a protracted war rather than the anticipated swift resolution.
This occurred in the "Christmas Truce" in 1914.
Politicians expected WW1 to last until Christmas of 1914. They had no idea that it was going to last four years.
Christmas truce happened in 1914.
The war wasn't over by Christmas 1914 due to several factors, including the failure of German plans for a quick victory in the West, the unexpected resilience of Allied forces, and the entrenchment of both sides leading to a stalemate. The initial optimism of a swift conflict gave way to the harsh realities of trench warfare, where casualties mounted and neither side could achieve a decisive breakthrough. Additionally, the logistical challenges of mobilizing large armies across Europe contributed to the prolonged nature of the conflict.
