The war was not over by Christmas 1914 due to the unexpected stalemate on the Western Front, where both the Allied and Central Powers dug in and established entrenched positions. Initial expectations of a quick victory were met with fierce resistance and logistical challenges, resulting in a prolonged conflict. Additionally, the harsh winter conditions hindered military operations, and both sides were determined to continue fighting rather than concede defeat. The combination of these factors led to a protracted war rather than the anticipated swift resolution.
This occurred in the "Christmas Truce" in 1914.
