I can't tell you how many helicopters were used for patient evacuation during the Korean War, but I can tell you a little bit about them. There were 4 different types of helicopters - the Bell H-13 Sioux is the one attached to the Army MASH units and can be seen on the M*A*S*H television series. The Marines were the first to transport the wounded to field hospitals and Navy hospital ships, and the Air Force transported over 2 million patients by the end of the war. The helicopter was able to get the wounded to help quickly and efficiently, thus saving tens of thousands of more lives than if the transport had been the same as during World War II.
