I believe the platform part is made of wood and/or cork.

--This is incorrect. Wood platforms would be extremely heavy and uncomfortable, are not that common in shoes. Generally they are made out of a heavy rubber and carved into shape. Sometimes cork is used on wedge shoes, and sometimes acrylic for a clear platform shoe.
