No handsaw can do it satisfactorily. I often cut it on my table saw and use either a veneer blade with many small straight teeth (no offset) or a multi tooth carbide blade. -It's very important to go slow and also keep the heat to a minimum. -tricky.

What is the name of the saw used to cut out MDF?

Well, MDF is basically cheap wood, made from glue and misc wood shavings. Such as the stuff you get when you cut a piece of ply wood and find lying around all over the floor. It is normally fairly strong, but is has a tendency to start chipping pieces out after a while. It can be cut will normally any standard wood saw, but manufactures use Sawmills to cut them ergo that is where most of the sawdust its made with comes from. Hope this helps.i roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx nooooooooob ~Austin I have just starting working with MDF Straight cuts: table saw, circular saw, jig saw, pretty standard just remember to use a higher teeth count on the blades Inside cutouts: jig and router When working with MDF make sure you use respiratory and eye protection as the dust contains formaldehyde.

Yes it is substantially higher priced because MDF is basically saw dust compressed together and warps much easier as plywood is just a thin sheet of wood so you know the quality is better.

How do you make your own veneers?

To make your own veneers, you would need special tools like a veneer saw or a veneer knife to cut thin slices of wood. Then, you would need to glue these slices onto a stable substrate material, like plywood or MDF, to create the veneer sheet. Finally, you would trim and sand the veneer sheet to the desired size and finish it with a sealant or varnish.

What is mdf wood?

MDF wood is a type of wood made out of saw dust pressed and combined together it is a very cheap wood and can be used for many things.

Where does mdf come from?

MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is made from waste wood fibres which are glued under heat and pressure. It is very versatile, but can be dangerous to use if proper safefy precautions are not adhered to. Most MDF slowly releases urea formaldehyde which is an irritant to the eyes and lungs. This can be sealed in with proper preparation and painting. The dust produced when sanding or cutting is another matter, and masks and goggles should ALWAYS be used when machining or cutting this material, and adequate ventilation should be present in the work area.

What is the best way to cut pieces of wood from a 4 x 8 sheet?

Set up your saw horses. Lay a couple or three of 2x2's or 2x4's on the horses. Lay the plywood or sheet goods face down (good side down), mark where you want your cuts, set your blade depth on your circular saw slightly deeper than the sheet is thick, make sure the sheet dropping won't pinch off your blade at the end of the cut, and start sawing.

What is the maximum wood cut length at Home Depot you would like to by 4'x8' plywood at Home Depot and have them cut it into 2- 2'x8' pieces Can their cutter do this?

It can, and very easily. A Home Depot store has two wood saws. One is a radial arm saw, and it can cut any of the dimensional stock but 6x6s which won't fit in the saw, and they won't cut Hardiboard siding because it tears up the blade. The other is a panel saw that can cut any wooden sheet goods but not drywall, concrete board or Hardipanel siding.
