I have a 2001 sporster. I usually shift at or alittle above 3000 rpm. Any thing lower puts my rpm at or under 2000 in the next higher gear, which makes my engine labor. I use my tac to shift and have never noticed the mph.

What is the shift pattern on 2003 hd 883 sportster?

The shift pattern on a 2003 Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster follows a standard configuration for most motorcycles. It is a 1-down, 4-up pattern, meaning the first gear is engaged by shifting down, while the subsequent gears (2nd to 5th) are engaged by shifting up. The neutral is located between 1st and 2nd gear. To shift, the rider uses the left foot lever to change gears.

No. Clutch is what disengages the motor from the transmission. Shift would be changing gears. You should depress the clutch to shift from one gear to another.

How do you properly use the gear shift on a bike?

To properly use the gear shift on a bike, you should first understand how the gears work. Lower gears are for easier pedaling on inclines or starting from a stop, while higher gears are for faster speeds on flat terrain. To shift gears, use the gear shift levers on the handlebars to move the chain onto a different gear. Shift to a lower gear when going uphill or starting, and shift to a higher gear when riding on flat ground or going downhill. Make sure to pedal lightly while shifting to avoid damaging the gears.

You should check for codes first. it is an electronic transmission and changes gears based on information received from various sensors. If the throttle position sensor is bad, it will not shift gears correctly. mine wouldn't shift into second until 30 mph and wouldn't shift into 3rd until 55 mph.
