you shouldn't be trying to do anything without thoroughly reading the manual but you have to disconnect it from the lever and fish the wire out from the clutch and reconnect a new one This type of work is very simple and often bike repair places will do it fairly cheaply and worth it if you are not mechanically inclined. I have found that Harley people to be great guys and gals and are more then willing to help you... if you get in trouble.. also this question may be better asked at the place you buy the cable since they will physically show you... the work needed done.

My answer is yes,any mechanic whom think they know what they are doing and just assume a clutch works like anyother clutch can make the mistake. A good mechanic would not put it back improperly. The other question I have to ask was it a Harley shop or other makes too as a Honda mechanic versus a Harley would not know the bike as well as they should. Sometime things do break but i would say the mechanic put the clutch in wrong or did something wrong when putting back the clutch. TO prove this to the shop would be hard to do and if it was a good shop they would check it out free of charge and fix it if their mechanic screwed up . Depending on how many miles you put on the bike less than 100 miles then it the shop if you put 2K on the bike it maybe just broke.
Because the clutch is adjusted incorrectly. If allowed to slip for more than a few blocks the friction plates will glaze and the steel plates will warp from the heat, meaning they will need to be replaced, which is considerably more expensive than the factory service manual that contains the information needed to avoid costly mistakes such as this.
To replace a clutch at the Porsche dealer for a 2000 911 Carrera is 2960.60....at least that is what I paid in Nov. '07. Eek.
pre-2007 requires 22-28 oz. 07-later 1 quart
