Well, I guess you live in the north as I do. I will tell you how I do my 1200. First, I fill the fuel tank with super gas, this to prevent any possibility of rust in the fuel tank. Next, I add fuel stablizer, read the instructions for the quantity. This prevents the fuel from going bad. If you have a water cooled engine, check the antifreeze to make sure it will withstand at least minus 30 c to minus 35 c, or minus 25 to 30 f. The auto parts has a gauge for this, not as expensive as a new engine. Change the oil, and re-fill with fresh oil, filter also. Run the engine for at least 5 minutes to allow the fuel stab. to mix in the carb's. or injectors. Shut it down, and only start it up in the spring. Jack up the bike so that the tires do not touch the floor. Use a floor jack and center stand, and put some wood blocks under the front of the engine to raise the front wheel. Remove the battery and charge at 2 amps once every month. Keep the battery in the house. These steps are all common practice. The extra steps that I do. I also add some car automatic Transmission Fluid to the fuel, not too much, keeps the seals in the carb's lubricated. Run the engine, you know the trans fluid is in the engine when it smokes lite blue, shut it down, Battery out, and I remove the spark plugs and give each cyl. a little shot of trans. fluid and put the plugs back in. This prevents any possibilty of rust build up in the cyl's. and prevents piston ring lock up from rust. As I said this is extra that I have been doing for years. In the spring, remove the plugs again, crank the engine to remove any remaining oil, plugs back in and start it up. Drive around to run this tank out and fuel with fresh gas, change the oil , and put some new spark plugs in. Ready to go. And yes, I can't wait for spring. Good luck.

To winterize your motorcycle, fill the gas tank with gas and put in some fuel stabilizer. Use a battery tender to plug the bike in and keep the battery on a charge and cover the bike to protect it form dirt and debris. Motorcycles should be kept indoors in the winter. I just put mine away for the season as well.
