To check the stator coil on a 185S ATC, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the stator terminals; consult the service manual for the specific resistance values to ensure they are within the specifications. For the CDI, you can test its functionality by checking the input and output voltages while the engine is cranking; a lack of spark may indicate a faulty CDI. Additionally, inspect the wiring and connections for any signs of damage or corrosion that could affect performance.

To set the timing on a 1985 ATC 250 SX, first, remove the left side cover to access the ignition system. Use a timing light and align the timing mark on the flywheel with the designated mark on the stator at the specified RPM (usually around 1,500 RPM). Adjust the stator by loosening the screws and rotating it until the marks align, then tighten the screws securely. Reassemble the cover and test the engine to ensure proper timing.
