Not sure what kind of filter you have but for my friends uni he cleaned his oil filter with grease cutting dishwashing detergent, just remove the filter, tap the grime out out of the filter, pour the detergent all over it, (make sure you use a decent amount), then let it chill with that liquid over it for like 5 minutes then put it in some hot water like in a bucket, then just to be safe put some more on it and soak it, then let it dry out, (Letting it dry out is important because if it\s wet it interferes with the re-oiling process so make sure its completely long)
