I have worked on a 98 trail boss. You have to take off the fly wheel cover/recoil first. After that there are two or three bolts that will come out of the starter. there is a ground strap that is attached to the starter that needs to come off also.

To remove the recoil starter on a 1990 Polaris 250 Trail Boss, first ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire for safety, then remove the screws or bolts securing the recoil starter cover to the engine. Carefully pull the recoil starter assembly away from the engine, taking care not to damage any attached components. Finally, inspect any gaskets or seals and replace them if necessary before reassembling.
To install a starter for a Polaris Trail Boss 325, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the old starter by unbolting it from the engine and disconnecting the electrical connections. Position the new starter in place, secure it with bolts, and reconnect the electrical wires. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the starter to ensure it functions properly.

i have a polaris 350 1990 2 stroke. I just raced beside a truck down a road and got to about 50mph.
I have a 1993 Polaris 250 Trail Boss. It won't start. It floods out the carb. Could it be low compression?
