To remove the ignition switch on a Yamaha Road Star, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Next, remove the headlight and any surrounding panels that obstruct access to the ignition switch. Locate the screws or bolts securing the switch, detach the wiring harness, and then carefully pull the switch out. Reassemble in reverse order after replacing or servicing the ignition switch.
The procedure is as follows: Insert the key into the ignition switch. Without pushing down, turn the key as far in the counter-clockwise direction as you can. You should hear a click sound from the front end of the seat. The seat is now ready to be removed by lifting on the front portion of the seat (the horn) and lifting upward. However, sometimes the seats can be fickle. Owners have found that the locking mechanism can be stiff and pushing down on the horn of the seat while turning the key will do the trick.
It's not that hard to do....Remove the seat and disconnect the neg side of the battery. Put a towel down where the seat used to be. Then on the console, remove the ugly screw and washer and the little nut below the speedometer. Once those are off, the whole console will lift up and lay it backwards on the towel. Now you will see the backside of the ignition switch. Unplug the 3 prong connector, and remove the 4 screws that hold the switch in. There you go......replace and reverse the order to put it back. I cleaned mine up in there after 11 years of road grime build up.
Could be to switch the fuel pump on/off when ignition is turned on or maybe for the starter motor?
Intermittent power issues with the ignition switch in a 1972 Plymouth Road Runner could be due to a faulty ignition switch itself, poor electrical connections, or a failing battery. Start by checking the wiring and connections for corrosion or looseness, as these can disrupt the electrical flow. Additionally, consider testing the ignition switch with a multimeter to ensure it's functioning properly. If the issue persists, further investigation of the wiring harness or related components may be necessary.

To change the oil on the Yamaha 1600 Silver Edition Road Star, you would first need to remove the seat and the oil dipstick. Then, remove the oil drain plug on the engine. Allow the oil to drain and remove the filter. Add the new filter, fill the oil, and close all of the drains. You can see full details of the procedure with photos at Road Star Clinic online.

Best to remove the ignition cylinder and open up the little door on the side. Turn over and shake vigorously until all the springs and tumblers are gone. Close the door and reinstall in the steering column. Since it has to have the RFID in the key to start, it is about the same as going to a push-button ignition. (It's also fun to ask passengers to hold your keys as you're driving down the road) =)
