On a Honda FourTrax, the starter is typically located near the engine, often on the right side of the motor. It's usually positioned close to the flywheel, which allows it to engage the engine effectively. For specific models, refer to the owner's manual for precise locations and any relevant diagrams.
The starter reduction gears from a 1985 Honda FourTrax 250 are generally not compatible with the 1986 or 1987 models due to differences in design and specifications. While the overall engine and transmission may appear similar, manufacturers often make subtle revisions that can affect part compatibility. It's best to consult a parts manual or a dealership to confirm compatibility before making any replacements.
