Very little current research has been (or is being) done on motorcycle crash statistics. The definitive, historical work was performed by Professor Harry Hurt back in the late seventies, see related link.
Many people claim that his study is out of date.....but I disagree. The number of factors that have changed since 1980 (changes in rider population, automotive engineering, bike features etc) have had little impact on the most serious contributing factors which are:
Rider training (or lack thereof!)
Alcohol use
Inattentive drivers/riders
Oklahoma State University is said to be in the midst of commissioning an updated replacement for the Hurt report, but its results will be several years in the making. (Hurt took 4 or 5 years to accumulate his data based on "being there" data collected at over 900 accident scenes and from 3600 police reports.
Bottom line: biking IS dangerous...but it CAN BE SAFE. You just need to do a few basic things: Train seriously with a certified program (like Canada's "Gearing Up"), wear appropriate safety gear, drink booze some other day!
over 60% of motorcycle fatalities are due to head trauma.
Those of us against mandated helmet laws would contend that these people would only be quadriplegic if they had worn helmets, rather than dead. That would place a terrible burden on their families and be a horrible way to finish your life.
Helmets also restrict visions and hearing. Many fatalities are also blamed on helmets hooking objects and breaking the necks of riders.
Wearing a motorcycle helmet while riding a bicycle can provide safety benefits by protecting the head in case of accidents, reducing the risk of head injuries, concussions, and traumatic brain injuries.
If you should fall/crash, it can protect your head (and face).
Wearing a motorcycle helmet is highly crucial for one's safety while riding a motorcycle. It can save one's life if one gets into a crash or accident.
If there is a mandatory helmet law in your state, you will probably get a ticket if you do not wear a helmet when riding your motorcycle.
In Utah, wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is required for all riders under the age of 18. For riders aged 18 and older, wearing a helmet is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended for safety. Additionally, operators must have a motorcycle endorsement on their driver's license. It's important to note that local laws and regulations may vary, so it's wise to check for specific requirements.
Safety! The helmet will protect your head in case you fall off or get thrown off the horse, much like wearing a helmet on a bike or motorcycle. You should always wear a helmet.
Well yes, I you're riding a motorcycle. You even need a bike helmet when riding a bike. Seatbelts in cars, etc.
Wearing helmets is the best thing to do when riding a motorcycle. One important reason why wearing a helmet is a must. The first reason is for protection. Helmets is a part of a motorcycle gear that riders should not neglect to wear.
There are many advantages to wearing riding gear whether it's a bicycle or a motorcycle. The most important piece of equipment to wear is a helmet as it's very easy to die from an accident with a bike.
Helmets are worn to protect your head from concussion or fatal injuries that have a relation to heads. If you wear a helmet while riding a bike, there is a chance you might fall but the helmet saving you. It is law that you were a helmet when riding a bike or motorcycle, ATV, etc.. If you are caught by the law not wearing a helmet while riding said vehicles, you may be fined around $20 - $200.
Seriously? NO.
He was riding a 2005Suzuki Hayabusa. Ben was also not wearing a helmet nor did he posses a valid MC license.
