The 46-inch and 42-inch mower decks on Yardman mowers are generally not the same and may have different installation processes. While they may share some components, the mounting points, belt configuration, and overall design can differ. It's essential to consult the specific owner’s manual for each deck model to ensure proper installation. Always refer to manufacturer guidelines for compatibility and installation instructions.
As long as they are close to the same year and model, yes. I have two decks side by side, one 38" and one 42", and all the brackets are the same. The belt will need to be changed for a longer one, though.

park mower on level ground or concrete. lower deck all the way down to ground. lay on your side on the right side of mower. several locking pins need to be pulled out of their slots. lay these to the side and do not misplace them. one cable and washer on top of deck need their locking pin removed. second locking pin needs to be removed from same cable guide way toward rear of deck. this makes 4 pins in all from right side. lay on left side of mower on the ground. three pins on this side need to be remove in same manner. raise height lever all the way back up and this will make it possible to clear mower when you slide deck out from under mower to work on deck . after work is complete, slide deck back under mower as close to location it was in when you started. connect all parts and reinsert pins in reverse order of how you took apart.

Lawn mower deck sizes typically range from 30 to 60 inches. Larger deck sizes cover more ground in less time, making them more efficient for larger lawns. However, smaller deck sizes provide better maneuverability in tight spaces. The cutting performance is influenced by the deck size as larger decks can cut more grass at once, resulting in faster mowing, while smaller decks may require more passes to cover the same area.
To install a stable and durable deck using 4x4 deck blocks, follow these best practices: Start by ensuring the ground is level and compacted. Place the deck blocks at each corner of the deck layout. Use a string level to ensure the blocks are at the same height. Install 4x4 posts into the deck blocks and secure them with screws. Attach beams to the posts to support the deck joists. Install the deck joists perpendicular to the beams. Secure the deck boards to the joists with screws or nails. Regularly inspect and maintain the deck to ensure its stability and durability.
