the proper cam position for a Honda 300 fourtrax ATV Should be Cam lobes DOWN (valves closed) while the piston is at TDC (top dead center) The lower "T" timing mark can be viewed through the inspection hole on the crank case. While the "T" is aligned with the mark, align the cam so that the lobes face down, and the hash marks on each side of the cam shaft line up with the head horizontally. This should put the 300 fourtrax in time. if its not aligned correctly be sure to loosen the chain tensioner first, before rotating the CAM shaft (never the crank shaft when its aligned) then rebolt and tighten the tensioner again.
