Turn on the fuel valve by pointing the lever DOWN to the "normal" position. (Note: Sideways is the "off" position and UP is the "reserve" position.) Again, 6 o'clock is ON, 9 o'clock is OFF, 12 o'clock is RESERVE. A quick mnemonic to help remember which position is reserve: when you flip the lever UP to the 12 o'clock position, it's time to gas UP. "Lever UP = time to gas UP."

To switch to the reserve fuel tank on a 2002 Honda Shadow, locate the fuel petcock, which is typically found near the fuel tank. Turn the petcock lever from the "ON" position to the "RES" (reserve) position. This allows fuel to flow from the reserve tank, which provides a backup supply when the main tank runs low. Always remember to switch back to the "ON" position once you've refueled.

The reserve capacity for a 1999 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy typically allows for about one to two gallons of fuel remaining when the low fuel light activates. Depending on riding conditions and fuel consumption, this could translate to roughly 30 to 50 miles before running out of fuel completely. It's always advisable to refuel as soon as the low fuel light comes on to avoid running out of gas.
The fuel petcock has two tubes that extend up into the fuel tank. The longer one is for the "on" position, and the shorter one is for the "reserve" position. When the tank gets to the top of the on position, you "run out of gas" and can switch to the reserve position, using the lower tube, which will give you a few more miles, depending on how different the levels are on the two tubes and the shape of the tank at that fuel level. This is not a substitute for watching the odometer, and may still leave you stranded if you use it as such.
down is on middle is off up is reserve
The 1995 Yamaha YZF does not have a separate reserve fuel tank. Instead, it typically features a single fuel tank with a reserve position on the petcock, allowing the rider to access a small amount of fuel after the main tank is depleted. Riders should be aware of their fuel levels and switch to reserve as needed.
If you you turn it clockwise as far as it will go it will be in the reserve position. Anti-clockwise as far as it will go is the on position. Halfway between the two is the off position. All this presuming of course that you have the stock petcock. The fuel valve has 3 positions: On, Reserve and Prime. It is a vacuum activated unit. Prime is used only if you have run out of fuel and need to prime the carbs. (Fuel runs all the time in this position). Once started turn to on. Reserve is self explanatory.
well some older jet skis do not have fuel gauges so in that case put the reserve on when it stops going. when the fuel gauge is very close to low it would be good to put the reserve on and get home quickly.
