Kawasaki introduced fuel injection on the Vulcan line in 2009 with the Vulcan 1700 series. Prior to that, earlier models primarily used carburetors. The shift to fuel injection was part of a broader trend in the motorcycle industry to enhance performance and meet stricter emissions regulations.

KAWASAKI - 1979 -Kawasaki Z000 Z1-Classic "Kawasaki has produced the first motorcycle to use fuel injection, and anyone with a practical mind has only one burning question about the bike: Does it work? The answer is an emphatic "yes." Through most of its powerband the Z-1 responds to throttle as cleanly as a perfectly tuned multi-carburetor bike no hiccups and no mid-range hesitation and it allows the 1015cc engine to meet 1980's tough emissions standards."
70% are fuel injection. 1989 is the last year carbeautors where made and da first year fuel injection was created... my Chevy capric classic 89 is a fuel injection

If your Vulcan is a US model an 85 will be a 700cc moter. due to tarrifs the US govt put on import bikes for that year, the 86 is the first year the Vulcan came as a 750cc because Kawasaki moved a plant into the US. The VN7xx's are the same basic bike from beginning to end of production, so simple answer is yes the 85 will fir into the frame of the 89. There are probably going to be some minor differances though, the brake pedal might be differant and on later models the master cylinder changed from the square to round. C
