Allow the oil to drain and remove the filter. Add the new filter, fill the oil, and close all of the drains. You can see full details of the procedure with photos at Road Star Clinic online.

To change the oil filter on your 2000 Yamaha V Star Classic 650, first ensure the engine is cool and the bike is on a level surface. Remove the oil drain plug to drain the old oil, then locate the oil filter, which is typically on the left side of the engine. Use an oil filter wrench to unscrew the old filter, apply a bit of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter, and install it by hand. Finally, replace the drain plug, refill the engine with new oil, and check for leaks.
