On a Craftsman chainsaw, the oil tank vent is typically located near the oil reservoir cap. It is designed to allow air to enter the tank as oil is used, preventing a vacuum that could hinder oil flow. Look for a small hole or venting mechanism near the oil fill cap, but be sure to consult the specific model's manual for precise location and instructions.
Need to know the fuel oil mix for craftsman chainsaw Model #917.353736.
Use Craftsman 2 cycle oil mixed with gasoline for all size Craftsman chainsaws. (The above answer is WRONG. The question is for an ELECTRIC chainsaw.) Use SAE30 oil if you cannot get SEARS Craftsman chain saw oil.
1 gal gas + 2cycle engine oil
I recommend adding it to the oil tank.
The duckbill, vent valve in your oil tank must not be working. Pressure that builds in the oil tank while the saw is running pushes out the oil onto the bar. If the vent isn't working then the oil continues to oooze out even after you shut the saw down. To test it, the next time try loosening the oil cap some after you finish running the saw and see if the probelm continues. You may also have a leaky oil tank or oil line. http://store.chainsawr.com/
It is completely normal. To prevent this, when finished dump oil from tank back in to the original bottle.
If this is a gas operated chainsaw, try fishing out the fuel filter in the tank if this is a two stroke motor. Take some carburetor cleaner and spray the heck out of the filter to clean off the varnish that has probably clogged it up. The coating comes from the oil that is mixed with the gas. This usually takes care of most of the problems.
On the top cover of mine it states to mix 1/2 pint of oil to 1 gallon of gasoline.
An oil tank for a Stihl MS310 can be bought directly from Stihl dealers. Alternatively, there are specialty shops online that sell chainsaw parts.
Not enough info.
The oil it calls for is Poulan which is 40:1. A good quality name brand (Stihl, Echo, etc.) will work fine when used as directed.
No, it is not recommended to use motor oil as chainsaw bar oil. Chainsaw bar oil is specifically designed to lubricate the chain and bar of a chainsaw, while motor oil may not provide adequate lubrication and could potentially damage the chainsaw.
