If your 1999 Polaris 400 Scrambler 4x4 has spark and is getting fuel but still won't start, there are a few potential issues to consider. Check the compression in the engine, as low compression can prevent starting. Additionally, inspect the ignition system components, such as the spark plug and ignition coil, for any faults. Lastly, verify that the engine timing is correct, as improper timing can also cause starting issues.
On a 2002 Polaris 400 Scrambler, there is typically no oil on the pull rope side, as this area is primarily for the recoil starter mechanism. The plug on top of the recoil is usually a cover for the pull start assembly, and it serves to keep debris out rather than to hold oil. If you are seeing oil in that area, it could indicate a potential issue, such as a leak from the engine.
If a Polaris Scrambler transmission vent line is blowing out transmission fluid the fluid may have been overfilled. Putting the transmission fluid in the wrong plug can also cause this.
It is 0.028 in.
The spark plug gap for a Polaris Indy 500 should be set between .025 and .028 inches. A new spark plug should need no adjustments as they come preset from the factory.
