Why do bikers wear one spur?

It is a tradition brought over from the Cavalry. A single spur is worn on the right boot in remembrance of a fallen Brother.

Some riders are also members of The Order of the Spur, a tradition in the US Cavalry in which a Trooper is awarded his Combat Spurs after engaging in combat or completing a Spur ride.

When I was a prospect with a one percent club in south Texas, I ask my sponsor this question. The answer was, as many have said, to honor the fallen, but there's more to it. Spurs are a pair, one without the other isn't much good. If u have a brother perhaps one u came up with as a prospect, even an old lady, anyone who you love and u know, and for whatever reason u won't see them for a while, or maybe ever, u split the pair each taking one. If u see one spur then u know somewhere in the world there's a person person who has the other. It about love and respect for a true friend a brother. And with every step, the jingle of that rowel is a constant reminder of someone who made an impression on u r life. It's a special gesture, not done lightly. Yes for the fallen, and for those that are no longer part of u r life, but u want to remember. The whole gay thing may be true in some parts of the world, but in the true biker world, it's respect, and love for someone gone, but not forgotten. You split the pair, as u have had to split with u r brother, even sometimes an old lady. That's what I was told anyway, and it makes more sense than most of this . Bikers are all about respect, and when u earn that, and it must be earned, then u r family. They also are big on symbolism, and tradition. It's as simple as that.
