A KTM backfiring during kick-starting can occur due to several reasons. Common causes include incorrect fuel-air mixture, a clogged air filter, or an issue with the ignition timing. Additionally, if the bike has a weak battery or faulty spark plug, it may struggle to ignite properly, leading to backfiring. Ensuring proper maintenance and tuning can help resolve these issues.
kick start it.
No, a KTM 85 kick start lever does not fit a KTM 65. The two models have different engine designs and kick start mechanisms, meaning their components are not interchangeable. It's important to use parts specifically designed for each model to ensure proper fit and functionality. Always consult the manufacturer's specifications or a parts dealer for the correct parts.
pull the clutch in and kick it over, or roll it down a hill
If your KTM bump starts but won't kick start, it may indicate a problem with the kickstarter mechanism, such as a jammed or damaged component. Additionally, check the fuel system to ensure there’s adequate fuel and that it's reaching the engine. It's also worth inspecting the spark plug for issues, as a faulty spark could prevent the bike from starting. Finally, consider checking the battery and electrical connections, as they may affect the kick start functionality.

Is it hard to kick or no matter how many times you kick it wont start? If the second choice is whats happening my guess is low compression. Maybe a compression test and or valve adjustment is in order if you have good fuel and a clean air filter and good spark. My 2000 ktm 400 would not kick start at all only push start. I had very low compression because of worn rings. If you can push the kick starter with your hand and not using the compression release this is your problem.
try putting your bike in gear and rocking it back and forth...its called priming the piston..only way i can start my ktm cold
When the KTM 65 SX kick start mechanism is over-tightened, it can cause excessive pressure on the internal components, leading to binding or locking up. This can result in misalignment or damage to the kick start gear and shaft, preventing smooth operation. Proper torque specifications are crucial to ensure that the kick start functions correctly without causing unnecessary stress on the system. Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for proper assembly and maintenance.
The timing may be too far advanced, check against manufacturer's recommendation.
