Kovu takes Kiara to Simba, and requests that he be able to live with them. Simba reluctantly agrees, and Kovu considers killing him, but decides to wait. Kovu and Kiara grow closer through hunting, and fall in love. Kovu decides to come clean to Kiara, but before he can, they fall into an ambush set up by Zira. They barely manage to get out alive, and Kovu tells his mother that he cannot kill Simba. Simba refuses to accept him, and Kovu is exiled, shunned by both groups. Kiara is outraged and tells Simba that he will never be like Mufasa before pursuing Kovu. She finds him and convinces Kovu to return. As they return, the Outsiders and the Pridelanders begin battling. Kovu and Kiara intervene, and tell them that they should not fight just because they are different. Both sides realize that they were blinded by prejudice, and stop fighting. Zira refuses to give up, and pounces at Simba. However, Kiara stops her, and sends her over a cliff. Zira dangles from the cliff, and Kiara tries to save her, but Zira refuses help, and falls to her death. Simba decides that Kovu and the other Outsiders can all live together, and Kovu and Kiara are hailed as the future king and queen.
