It is important to note, first that Islam is a religion, but Islamism is something else. It is a political ideology whose goal is to bring the religious tenets of Islam into the daily functioning of a government and its laws. Islamism is a modern movement whose roots began contemporaneously with the rise of Salafism in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Egypt. Islamism is not by nature violent or expansive. Many Islamist movements have concrete nationalistic goals such as the Islamists in power in Turkey.

Buddhism does not usually have a political component in the same way that Islamism is a political manifestation of Islam.

If the question intends to ask what the similarities are between Buddhism and Islam (the two religions), please see the Related Question below.

Douglas J. Davies (An Introduction to Mormonism) talks of the evolution of the Church of Latter Day Saints in terms of an initial focus on the Book of Mormon and restoration of the priesthoods, a secondary gathering together through a growing sense of self-identity as a kind of latter-day 'Hebrew' people and, finally, a more esoteric church associated with a 'powerful group mystical experience'. The Book of Mormon is an epic similar to much of the Hebrew Bible, and contains an account of a group of Hebrews who left Israel approximately 600 BCE1 and settled in the Americas. Here they fought and had tribulations very similar in concept to those described in the Hebrew Bible.

However, the Book of Mormon is only really part of the Mormon faith and is no longer considered central, as it once was. A further possible similarity between Mormonism and ancient Judaism is the Mormon belief that their leaders are prophets. _____________________________________________________________

1 The Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 2:: "And it came to pass that the Lord commanded my father, even in a dream, that he should take his family and depart into the wilderness. And it came to pass thathe was obedient unto the word of the Lord, wherefore he did as the Lord commanded him. == == These are all great and accurate similarities, but it is not true that the Book of Mormon is "no longer considered central" in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The entire foundation of the church is on the Book of Mormon, and members are asked to study it daily. Several of the larger offshoot groups in the LDS movement, such as the Community of Christ, however, have been becoming more "mainstream" Christian and no longer consider the Book of Mormon as central to their faith.
